During their senior year, DMI majors complete a capstone project in collaboration with a faculty member and local community organization. In the first semester of the capstone project, you coordinate with a local organization and select a faculty member who is best able to mentor you during the project. Then, the following semester, you can get to complete a hands-on high impact community project that will stand out on your resume!

MensHelp: Your Personal Virtual Style
Capstone Project by Germeine Osei Kwakye
MensHelp is a virtual stylist chatbot that helps men express themselves through fashion. It is not just another styling app. Instead of offering random outfit ideas, it takes your body type, measurements, favorite styles, color preferences, and fashion inspirations to create looks that match your personality and needs. Whether you are dressing for a formal event, a casual day, or just running errands, MensHelp gives you suggestions that feel personal and meaningful.
As I started researching, I found studies that confirmed how fashion affects confidence and mental health. I also saw how more men are starting to explore fashion, thanks to social media and influencers who are changing what masculinity can look like. That shift gave me a reason to build something useful. I want MensHelp to be the tool that gives men the chance to feel seen, understood, and stylish.
3D Historical Archives of Fitchburg
Capstone Project by Chris Gonzalez
My capstone project combines LiDAR, historical data, and various other technologies to create 3D recreations of the Fitchburg Commons from the 1800s and from modern day. The final product will be an interactive 3D-printed to-scale diorama for the historical society to display. I've been using data from the Fitchburg Historical Society's archives to map out where buildings used to be and recreate what they used to look like. For the modern-day models, I've been using Google Maps for the planning and LiDAR scanning to help with the smaller details.
