A Welcome from the Dean of Education
If you are currently a member of Fitchburg State University’s education community, congratulations on your choice of pursuing an education that will make a difference in the lives of children and young adults. If you are in the process of considering Fitchburg State as your educational home, I want you to know that we are excited about you joining us, and hope you will find our choice of programs exciting. We have an excellent faculty that is ready to join you in your quest to explore and expand your knowledge as an educator.
The educator licensure programs at the University are rooted in a “Classroom Ready” philosophy that will place you in schools with students during your 1st semester and each semester after. The program believes strongly in integrated field experiences that help you observe, practice and teach as part of your program.
Fitchburg State is proud of its historic mission as a “teachers” university, within the context of a liberal arts university. Whether you are a student, parent, faculty member, staff member, or education partner, we hope you find this webpage and related links useful. We welcome your suggestions for improving the content and delivery of our programs to better serve your needs. I encourage you to visit Fitchburg State, in person or online, to learn more about our engaged learning community. If you would like to come and talk to us, please give us a call at 978.665.3239.

The Education Unit at Fitchburg State University is committed to preparing knowledgeable, skillful, and culturally responsive educators that have a focus on inclusivity. We strive to prepare compassionate candidates that become reflective, ethical, professional, and socially responsible teachers, administrators, and counselors. Our programs focus on anti-racist pedagogy, and employ innovative technology to cultivate higher-level thinking and metacognitive skills, while acknowledging the value and benefit of divergent thinking. We support the community by offering both licensure and non-licensure programming that is inclusive of all students, including those with varying abilities and cultural backgrounds.
Fitchburg State University is a member in good standing of the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP), a national accrediting organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. Fitchburg State University is working toward accreditation of its educator preparation programs under the AAQEP standards with an anticipated quality assurance review in Fall 2023.
