School of Arts and Sciences

Welcome to the School of Arts and Sciences

Sara Levine

The School of Arts and Sciences encompass the fine and performing arts, communication media, humanities, social sciences, and interdisciplinary studies. With 28 undergraduate majors, 39 minors and certificates, and numerous masters, 4 + 1, and graduate certificate programs, Arts and Sciences engage our students in transformative learning experiences that prepare them for professional and academic careers while also enabling them to understand and shape the complex and changing world in which they live.

Whether you are completing coursework for your chosen major, exploring new fields of study, or taking general education courses, you will have the opportunity to engage with your classmates and faculty in small classes with individualized attention. Our talented and dedicated faculty is committed to helping students achieve their greatest potential in and out of the classroom and also serve as advisors who will guide and support you as you develop your skills and interests.

A distinctive feature of our educational programs is the focus on the application of learning in public settings through student/faculty collaborative research and publication, hands-on community-based projects, study-abroad, and professional internships. Fitchburg State’s foundation in the liberal arts produces students with the skills to think critically and creatively, solve problems imaginatively, value diverse perspectives, communicate effectively, and engage the world ethically.

We would be happy to assist you in learning more about Fitchburg State University and what we have to offer. I invite you to come visit our campus, tour our departments, and meet with our committed faculty and staff. My door is always open so feel free to swing by the Dean’s office as well. We look forward to seeing you soon!
