In Short

The minor in Music History will allow students to study the history and theory of music at different times across many cultures.

Overview

A music minor is a great choice for a student who is passionate about music, but who chooses to major in another field. Our programs aim to broaden, as well as deepen, students' understanding of the art of music.

The Music History minor provides artistic, philosophical, cultural, and historical context for the music that students study. Core courses provide a background in European classical music, music in non-Western cultures, and popular music styles in the United States. Flexible elective courses provide opportunities to explore specific areas, such as jazz, film music, musical theater, women in music, and more.

Many students have a serious interest in music and participate in our undergraduate ensembles, studios, and classroom courses, without pursuing either a major or minor.
