Certificate Overview

The Special Issues in Mental Health certificate program is designed to provide individuals with specialized knowledge in the field of counseling that could either broaden the student's expertise in the field of counseling, or form a foundation for more extensive work at the master's level. This concentration would be ideal for educators, including school counselors, who desire a stronger knowledge base in the field of mental health counseling.

Although you can complete the program in as little as one year, you have six years to complete the program.

Curriculum and Other Information

Completed applications are reviewed on a rolling admission basis. Admissions requirements are as follows:

  • Official transcript of a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Three letters of recommendation (References must be from professional sources, and one must be an academic reference.)
  • Professional resume
  • Official transcripts of graduate level course work from a regionally accredited institution (if applicable)
  • Graduate application and fee
  • A personal statement (maximum 300 words) describing goals and reasons for applying to the program
  • Successful completion of all undergraduate prerequisites:
    • Developmental Psychology (or equivalent)
    • Statistics, Psychological Statistics or Applied Statistics for Counselors
