Critical and Creative Thinking Across the Disciplines Skills

Guidance documents for these skills are forthcoming

  • Creative Thinking (draft): Combine or synthesize existing ideas, images, or expertise in original ways. Think, react, and work in imaginative ways; engaging in innovation, divergent thinking, and risk taking.

  • Critical Thinking (draft): Develop and practice the mental habit of comprehensively exploring ideas, artifacts, and evidence before formulating an opinion or conclusion, as well as allowing previously held opinions or conclusions to be adjusted with the introduction of new information.

  • Digital Literacy (draft): Effectively use information and communication technologies to explore ideas, solve problems, and find, evaluate, create, and communicate information in ways that require both cognitive and technical skills.

  • Information Literacy: Recognize what information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate, and use that information effectively and ethically.

  • Quantitative Reasoning: Analyze and interpret mathematical information as a means to evaluate arguments and make informed choices.

  • Reading: Read to extract and construct meaning through interaction and involvement with written language and other media.

  • World Languages, Speaking and Listening: Develop and apply skills for communicating effectively in a spoken or signed world language, in order to disseminate knowledge, reach a broader audience, and foster understanding across people and cultures.

  • Writing: Craft original texts to develop and express ideas working with different media including words, data, and images.
