Student Health Insurance

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts mandates that all matriculated students enrolled in 9 or more credits, or 4.5 or more graduate credits must be covered by a health insurance plan comparable to the policy offered by Fitchburg State University or purchase the Fitchburg State University health insurance plan.

NEW information for students covered by MassHealth

If you are covered by MassHealth (other than Health Safety Net, MassHealth Limited, or Children’s Medical Security Plan), you may be eligible to enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) and have the premium paid by MassHealth Premium Assistance. To see if you’re eligible, select the Waiver Form or Enrollment Form link below and follow the prompts.  For more information about this plan for the 18/19 Academic year, please click here.

All eligible students at Fitchburg State University will be billed for the health insurance plan provided by the University. If you have adequate insurance, you must waive the insurance each year. Students must maintain enrollment requirements to remain eligible for the student health coverage offered by Fitchburg State.

To waive the student health insurance plan, with your proof of other coverage, please go online to the University Health Plan, Inc. website. A waiver form must be completed online each academic year. Students will waive each Fall semester. If you are starting in the spring semester, please waive it before the bill due date of December 19th.  Moving forward, you will need to waive it each July/August. The online waiver will be available after July 1st. We require students to complete the waiver before the fall bill due date which is August 10th, otherwise the charge will show as past due on your account.  In order to comply with State Law, if a waiver is not completed by October 1st you will be force enrolled in the plan and you will be responsible for the insurance charge.

The Health Insurance Policy is administered by University Health Plans, Inc.
