Commencement Checklist

Our next commencement ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 16, 2026. Students who complete their courses of study in December 2025 may apply to participate in the Spring ceremony by following the steps outlined below.

In order to graduate, you need to do the following:

  • Verify graduation and completion of degree requirements.
  • Apply to graduate.
  • Confirm your plans to participate in the May commencement ceremony by viewing your application to graduate.

Participating in Commencement and Graduating in the same semester?

  • You will have one application to view. Application will say yes/no for attending the ceremony based on your current participation status

Participating in Commencement in a different semester from when you graduate?

  • You will have two applications to view
  • One will show your status for graduating - verified, verified-transfer, unresolved issues, or complete - this will show "NO" for attending commencement
  • One will show your status for Commencement participation - walk only or student attending May - this will show Yes/No based on your current participation status
  • Should you need to update your status, please email registrar@fitchburgstate.edu

After confirming your plans to participate:

  • Purchase your cap and gown at the Fitchburg State University Bookstore in the lower level of Hammond Hall.
  • If applicable, request accommodations through Disability Services.
  • Inform friends and family when seating opens and is first come, first served.
  • Remind friends and family that during the ceremony access to the stage for picture taking or videotaping will be prohibited. A professional picture of you and the President will be mailed to your home courtesy of the Alumni Association.
