TRIO

International UB Students

Fitchburg State University is proud to host three TRIO grants. Upward Bound was the first TRIO program at Fitchburg State, the grant began in 1989. Upward Bound was followed by Student Support Services (TRIO SSS) in 1987. Our newest TRIO grant is Upward Bound Math and Science, which was won in 2017. Links to all three TRIO programs' webpages can be found below.

TRIO Student Support Services (SSS)

TRIO Student Support Services supports college students who are from families where neither parent has earned a 4-year degree, who are from low-income backgrounds, and/or are students with disabilities. TRIO SSS students have access to peer support through the Student Support Squad leaders, additional academic advising, and access to cultural experiences that connect them to the community and expand their knowledge of the world.

Upward Bound

Upward Bound is a year round, college preparatory program (TRIO) funded by the Department of Education and sponsored by Fitchburg State University since 1989. The program stresses academic development, serving 87 high school students from Fitchburg and Leominster for the duration of their high school career and beyond. Eligibility is based on first generation college status, family income and academic motivation.

Upward Bound provides academic support through tutoring services, educational and college preparatory workshops, and cultural field trips. Program participants have access to many of our resources and facilities.
