What is SU SUCCESS?

You don't have to figure college out alone.

College comes with a lot - classes, money, deadlines, big decisions, and a hundred offices you've never heard of. SU SUCCESS pairs you with a coach who helps you make sense of all of it.

Your coach is one consistent person who gets to know you, helps you sort out what you need, and connects you to the right resource or person on campus - whether that's tutoring, your advisor, financial help, or someone to talk to. They won't do it for you; they'll help you learn how to do it yourself, so it gets a little easier every semester.

It's free, it's judgment-free, and it's here for you the whole way through.

What a coach actually does:

Connects you to what you need

Not sure where to go for food, housing, money trouble, tutoring, mental health, or career help? Your coach knows the campus and gets you to the right place - then follows up to make sure it worked.

Helps you build your game plan

Learn the tools FSU expects you to use (DegreeWorks, Navigate, your degree plan), get ready for your advising appointments, and build habits that keep you on track.

Has your back the whole way

One person who checks in, celebrates the wins, and helps you speak up for yourself when something's hard. You're not a number here.

Alexander Cochran

A problem solver at heart, I graduated from Fitchburg State University in 2020 with a degree in Mathematics. While I love the logic of numbers, my true passion lies in people. I transitioned into the field of education because nothing beats the reward of building meaningful connections with students and watching them achieve those breakthrough, "lightbulb" moments of success. Whether I'm breaking down a complex math problem or helping a student navigate a challenge, I bring patience, enthusiasm, and a unique perspective to everything I do. Fun Fact: I’m a bit of a speedcuber—my personal best for solving a Rubik’s Cube is a lightning fast 7 seconds!

Cheyenne Coon

I'm a Massachusetts native who somehow turned a passion for helping people into a career in higher education, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I love creating a welcoming campus experience and connecting with students. When I'm not at work, you'll probably find me trying a new restaurant, planning my next trip, or convincing myself I need "just one more" Dunkin' Refresher.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions students ask us...

Bring us anything. If we're not the right office, we'll get you to the one that is.

A coach can help you:

  • Figure out what to do when money's getting in the way of school - your coach can help you find what support exists, for things like food, housing, transportation, or childcare, and how to get it
  • Get tutoring and academic support through the ACT Center
  • Prepare for advising and learn to plan your own schedule
  • Explore majors and careers, and connect with Career Services
  • Find counseling and mental-health support
  • Get to the right person when you're not even sure who to ask

SU SUCCESS is here for any FSU student who could use support staying on track - and we especially work with first-year students, first-generation students, and students balancing a lot at once. Not sure if it's for you? Reach out anyway and we'll figure it out together.

Your first meeting is mostly us getting to know you - what's going well, what's stressing you out, and what you want from your time at FSU. From there, you and your coach decide what to focus on. You set the agenda; we bring the map.

No. Your faculty advisor helps you choose your courses and approves your registration - that doesn't change. Your coach helps you get ready for those conversations, learn the planning tools, and handle everything around your classes. We work alongside your advisor, never instead of them.

TRIO Student Support Services and SU SUCCESS are partner programs with a lot in common. The simplest answer: reach out to either of us and we'll make sure you land in the right place.

No. SU SUCCESS coaching is completely free.

We take your privacy seriously, and we only share what you tell us with the people who can help you - or when we're required to by law or for someone's safety. One thing worth knowing: coaches aren't a confidential resource the way a counselor is. Like most staff at FSU, we're required to report certain things, such as concerns for someone's safety or experiences of sexual or gender-based harm. If you ever want to talk something through with someone whose conversations carry stronger privacy protections - like a counselor - just ask, and your coach will connect you.

Reach out using the contact us information below, and we'll match you with a coach who'll be in touch.
