JED Campus

Fitchburg State University partnered with The Jed Foundation (JED), a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting emotional health and preventing suicide among young adults. JED Campus is a signature program of The Jed Foundation designed to guide schools through a 4-year collaborative process of comprehensive systems, program and policy development with customized support to build upon existing student mental health, substance use and suicide prevention efforts.

To become a JED campus, we worked to assess and enhance the policies, programming, services and outreach aimed at supporting students’ emotional well-being and preventing suicide and substance abuse. The multi-year strategic collaboration not only assessed and enhanced the work that was already being done, but helped create positive, lasting, systemic change in the campus community.

"I've always thought that at Fitchburg State, the community is built on a strong sense of connection, both in and outside the classroom. In extracurricular activities, I’ve experienced a truly supportive environment where everyone’s interests are valued, and there’s always a chance to get involved and make lasting connections. Whether it’s through student organizations, clubs, or events, there’s a deep sense of belonging, and everyone is encouraged to contribute their unique skills and perspectives. In the classroom, the faculty support feels centralized—professors go out of their way to offer guidance, provide feedback, and create a nurturing space where students feel comfortable to ask questions and grow. The faculty genuinely care about our success, and it's clear that they’re invested in our development, not just academically but personally as well. This creates a tight-knit community where collaboration thrives, and we can rely on each other for support, encouragement, and inspiration."

"I've always thought that at Fitchburg State there are a wide variety of resources available. FSU is always growing and developing to ensure it has the best for its students. Just recently, the Falcon Care website launched to make sure the FSU students could find everything they need for their wellbeing. Fitchburg State is also an accepting community. The university encourages the celebration of diversity and makes a great effort to be inclusive. I have also encountered some incredible staff during my time at Fitchburg State University. The staff here have been some of my greatest cheerleaders and supporters. They push for the best out of their students. I am grateful to have had a great experience here at FSU and the work the university puts in to making sure we have an excellent student experience."

“I've always thought that at Fitchburg State, the community (whether staff or student) is willing to support every decision that you make in reasonable circumstances no matter how difficult it may be to make.”
