Join Dr. Gerald Hidgon for Talk I: "Everything you Knew or Need to Know about Sequences and Series". This talk contains a review of the important topics in sequences and series which are usually covered in a standard Calculus II course. Several examples are considered and different ways of looking at sequences and series are presented (the "wall of convergence''). The talk proceeds through the topics of Taylor and Maclaurin Series which, in some sense, form the basis for the topic of generating functions, and concludes with a preview of the notions of formal power series and generating functions.

This is the first talk in a six-part "series" titled Sequences, Series, Generating functions, Summability, Probability, Approximability.

Refreshments will be provided. All are welcome, but a background of Calculus II knowledge is recommended.
