The program, which included a keynote address from professor and author Dan Kennedy, was attended by educators from Massachusetts and New Hampshire as well as community members.

The program let students and families get a look at the actual rooms they would be occupying when they move in starting Monday, Sept. 2.

The free conference is also open to those interested in learning more about the role of quality journalism in a healthy democracy. 

Dr. Hodge was selected by the university’s Board of Trustees this April following a national search.

The orientation program allowed family and friends of the recruits a chance to meet the academy staff and other university leaders who described the program and its blend of academic and tactical development.

The Honors Compact gives Fitchburg High Honors Academy students priority admission to the university as well as access to campus courses, facilities and scholarships.

A student is placed on the Dean’s List if an average grade of 3.20 or better is attained, while a student is named to the list after achieving a 3.75 average in each of three successive semesters.

The innovative programs are designed to respond to evolving career trajectories for graduates and will foster skills development spanning disciplines.

Dr. Hodge will join Fitchburg State from Colorado State University Pueblo, where she was most recently its Vice President of Operations and Advancement.

Much of the cost to students has been covered by over $82,000 in scholarships provided by the Fitchburg State University Foundation.
