All 10 graduates of the program have been hired by police departments across the state.

President Donna Hodge will welcome students, faculty, staff, and the community at large with a State of the University address at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4.

The orientation program allowed family and friends of the recruits a chance to meet the academy staff and other university leaders who described the program and its blend of academic and tactical development.

They will spend the summer training in a variety of areas including defensive tactics, weapons qualification, emergency vehicle operations and applied patrol procedures.

All 11 members of the group have already been hired by municipal and collegiate police departments.

Visitors from the Srpska Republic learned about Fitchburg State's groundbreaking approach to police training.

Family and supporters of the 6th Recruit Officer Course met with staff and visiting officials during the session.

In September, those who finish the ROC will be certified as police officers ready to report to municipal police departments in Massachusetts and neighboring states.
