Federal Reserve Bank & FSU Building Paths to Economic Stability: A Community Conversation
4:00pm - 6:00pm Hammond Hall | Ellis White Lecture HallAbout This Event
Where you live shapes what's easy and what's hard about accessing economic opportunity. Many people face hidden barriers simply because of their zip code: fewer nearby banks, higher-cost financial products, limited pathways to build credit, and a shortage of affordable housing.
Join us on April 29 at Fitchburg State University for a community-centered panel and conversation that brings together student researchers and regional development leaders to talk about North Central Massachusetts's geography of opportunity. Panelists include student speakers on banking deserts, a nonprofit leader focused on housing and economic development opportunities, a representative from the regional planning commission, a speaker on financial inclusion and consumer credit, and members of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston’s community development research team.
After the panel, we'll facilitate an open community discussion focused on local experiences, identifying shared challenges, and exploring practical, cross-sector solutions—what changes in policy, institutional practice, and community partnerships could meaningfully improve access and opportunity where we live. Bring your questions, observations, and experiences. All are welcome: community members, students, local leaders, nonprofits, small business owners, and anyone interested in increasing access to economic stability.
