IRP: Research Roundtable

12:00pm - 1:00pm Hammond Hall | G11

About This Event

Our final Fall '25 installment of Research Roundtable is on Friday, December 5 at 12-1 p.m. in Hammond G11! This semester we have been exploring placement testing practices and their impact on student success. This final paper is especially relevant: it's about our own campus/practices and written by Dr. Jessie Oehrlein!

Our next paper: Fitchburg State Mathematics Placement Analysis

Since this is a longer paper, Dr. Oehrlein has kindly suggested that readers focus on these sections:

  • Summary and Current Placement Process (sufficient for conversation)
  • For a little more detail, read the Math 1300 Summary (starts page 25ish but does not include Figures 14, 15, or 16 even though those end up in the middle of it) and the Conclusions

Who should join?
Anyone interested in higher education research or best practices, regardless of background or expertise. Whether you’ve been reading scholarly articles for years or are just beginning, your perspective is valuable. The hope is that participants read the full paper, but the expectation is at least the abstract (and if possible, the introduction and conclusion) are read.

As always, supporting resources and guides for readers are available on the Institutional Research webpage. And, attendees are welcome to bring their lunch!
