Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP)
The Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP) allows advanced course students to serve in the Army National Guard or the Army Reserve and Army ROTC at the same time. ROTC SMP cadets are paid at the grade of a Sergeant (E-5) (currently a little over $200 for each month's weekend drill) for their Guard or Reserve drills, along with the ROTC stipend. ROTC SMP students serve as officer trainees in their Guard or Reserve units and are eligible for certain veterans educational benefits from their Guard or Reserve units. A typical reserve or guard SMP cadet can expect to receive over $1,100 per month in pocket!
Green to Gold Program
The Green to Gold Program seeks talented young enlisted soldiers who have decided to leave, or are considering leaving, active duty to attend college. Quality enlisted soldiers with officer potential who have served at least two years on active duty are allowed to voluntarily request discharge from active duty, and enroll in Army ROTC to earn baccalaureate degrees and commissions as second lieutenants.
- Green to Gold Scholarship Option - For Soldiers who are considering leaving Active Duty to attend college while receiving full tuition or housing and meal plan / food (capped), flat rate book payment and a monthly stipend.
- Green to Gold Active-Duty Option - For Soldiers who want to remain on Active Duty and attend college.
- Green to Gold Division Commander’s Hip Pocket Scholarship Program - provides selected Soldiers the opportunity to complete their baccalaureate degree requirements and obtain a commission through participation in the ROTC Scholarship program.
- Green to Gold Non-Scholarship - For Soldiers who are considering leaving Active Duty to attend college while receiving a monthly stipend.
ROTC Scholarships
Army ROTC provides several scholarships each year to motivated students willing to serve their country as an Army officer. The scholarships are granted on a competitive basis.
Army ROTC scholarships are entirely merit-based. Scholarship benefits can cover tuition and fees or housing and meal plan / food but not both. If you elect the benefits to cover tuition and fees the scholarship will cover all tuition and mandatory fees each semester. If you elect for housing and meal plan / food the scholarship will pay directly to you $5000 per semester for a total of two semesters per year or $10,000, a book allowance ($1200 per year, $600 per semester), and a monthly stipend ($420) per month during the academic school year (typically 10 months). All qualified college freshman or sophomore may apply for one of these on-campus scholarships.
National Army ROTC Scholarships
National Army ROTC Scholarships are available for qualified seniors in High School. The application for the national scholarship program can be found on the ROTC Army website and the application opens on 12 June every year for those students entering their senior year of high school. For recent HS graduates who have not enrolled in college and wish to apply for a national scholarship you may do so but you cannot enroll in college and remain eligible for scholarship consideration. For example you graduate on 6 June but you did not apply for the national scholarship prior to your senior year of HS and you plan to take a GAP year between HS and college. You are eligible to still apply for the scholarship as long as you do not attend college until the next fall semester.
