CARE Team (Community Assessment and Risk Evaluation)

We receive, consider and, when appropriate, act upon information or behavior(s) of concern exhibited by a student or group of students.

Student Affairs coordinates the group of professional staff that meet weekly during the academic year to address the safety, welfare, and academic success of students.

The Fitchburg State CARE Team includes representatives from across the institution, with a focus on reaching out to students whose behavior has in some way has come to the attention of others. We determine a plan of action (if deemed appropriate and needed) that is in the best interest of the student and the campus community.

We encourage faculty, staff, student or parental response to behavior that may be classified as:

  • Academic Concerns – Concerns related to a student’s academics
  • General Concerns/Other – General concerns about the behavior and/or welfare of a student
  • Missing Students – Students’ who have been missing for a period of time
  • Distressed Behavior – the most common, distressed behavior causes us to feel alarmed, upset or worried
  • Disruptive Behavior – behavior that interferes or disrupts the educational environment of other students or the normal academic functions of the university
  • Dangerous Behavior – behavior that causes one to feel frightened and/or in fear of one's personal safety or the safety of others.

This is not a system to use for emergencies.

In case of an emergency, regardless of time of day, when a student's well-being is in jeopardy, please contact Campus Police at 1 (978) 665-3111.
