Dr. John Crawley had a long and successful career as a corporate attorney for Hewlett Packard as well as an adjunct professor for various colleges and universities. In 2017 he decided to pursue his love of teaching full-time and accepted a position at Fitchburg State University with the Business Administration Department. Professor Crawley was known as a person who cared deeply about his students. He was constantly challenging them to appreciate life’s gifts and give thanks to those people that helped them along the way. His goal for students was that they not just find excellence at work, but that they become high quality human beings. Life lessons that carry way beyond the classroom.
One of Professor Crawley’s often used words of encouragement was “Shine”. Shortly before he passed, a student had inquired about the meaning behind his use of the word. He explained it as this…. “Average is easy. You must be the brightest, most prepared and capable. The world, especially as it stands today, is depending on it….. SHINE”.
So today and every day, remember to appreciate all the beautiful moments, memories and people that cross your path in life and be sure to SHINE with all you do. Professor Crawley wouldn’t want it any other way!
Proceeds from the John Crawley Scholarship Golf Tournament will be awarded annually to local undergraduate students entering into the Business Administration Program at Fitchburg State University.
