Faculty Spotlight: Christine Devine

Christine Devine is an Assistant Professor in the Nursing Department. Chrisy began her nursing career after earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from St. Anselm College in 1987. Following graduation, she joined UMASS Memorial Healthcare, initially on a neurology unit, before specializing in pediatric nursing.
Her passion for working with children and their families, coupled with her interactions with nursing students, fostered her growth as an educator. While working as a pediatric nurse she mentored newly graduated nurses, served as a clinical instructor, and earned an MS in Nursing Administration.
In 2001, after 14 years of acute care nursing that included bedside instruction and mentorship, Chrisy became a nursing instructor at Fitchburg State University. As a faculty member, she instructs in Pediatric Nursing, Leadership and Management, and the First Year Experience seminar, tailoring her teaching to diverse learner needs. She also teaches the Capstone course in the online RN to BS program.
Chrisy furthered her education with a PhD in Nursing from UMASS Dartmouth (2020), with a research focus of nursing student perceptions of academic and clinical integrity. Her current research interests include professional identity formation, integrity in nursing students, and first-year student resilience.
Within the Department of Nursing, she serves on the Curriculum Committee, Student Policies, Committee, and Admissions Committee, engaging in curricular redesign, student policy development, and the admission process.
