The Amelia V. Gallucci-Cirio Library Outstanding Student Employee Award was established in 2021 to recognize students who consistently demonstrate professionalism and high standards of performance in the role of student library employee.
Student workers play a vital part in the daily operation of the library. They provide quality customer service while assisting users with checking out materials, booking study rooms, assisting with technology and printers, keeping the library stacks in order, carrying out special projects, and many other tasks that are essential to the library’s mission.
Criteria for Award:
- Completes two academic semesters as a library employee.
- Shows commitment and dedication to the library; attendance is excellent and they are always on time for work.
- Demonstrates professionalism when interacting with other student workers, supervisors, and library staff.
- Demonstrates consistent quality of work in contributing to library projects and tasks.
- Demonstrates excellent communication skills.
- Exhibits a high level of customer service when interacting with patrons.
Past Award Winners
2024 - Meadow Mazza and Jasmin Valentin
Meadow’s ownership of her work and amazing customer service skills has made her stand out as one of our best employees. She is never dismissive of a patron’s questions and jumps to assist them. Even while dealing with difficult situations in the library, Meadow is calm and collected. While she has worked with us, Meadow has become a pro at closing the Library in the evenings, helping patrons navigate the library, and she always has a positive attitude.
In recognition of Meadow’s excellent service, the book Fables Covers: the Art of James Jean by James Jean and Bill Willingham was dedicated in her honor to the Library’s collection.
Jasmin has worked across all of the departments of the Library, gaining a wealth of knowledge and experience that has made her an extremely valuable member of our team. She takes ownership of her work, and acknowledges and addresses problems within the Library’s space. Jasmin is always welcoming to our patrons and is happy to assist them, and strives to ensure that the Library is a safe space for others to learn and study.
In recognition of Jasmin’s excellent service, the book Love War Stories by Ivelisse Rodriguez was dedicated in her honor to the Library’s collection.
2023 - Andrew Dorr
Andrew has been a student worker at the Library since 2021. He is majoring in Education, and will be graduating in May, with plans to pursue a master's degree and will be working as an elementary school teacher.
During his time at the Library, Andrew's willingness to learn new skills and try new things enabled him to work across most of the departments in the library, gaining a wealth of knowledge and experience in our library, which has made him an even more valuable member of our team.
In recognition of Andrew’s excellent service, The Book with No Pictures by B.J. Novak was purchased and dedicated in his honor to the Library’s collection.
2022 - Spencer Jordan
Spencer has been a student worker at the Library since 2019 and is majoring in Human Services at Fitchburg State. His work ethic and attitude make him stand out as a student employee.
Spencer is both welcoming and responsive to all users of the Library. His approachable presence at the circulation and research help desks allows other students to feel comfortable about asking for help. He is kind, compassionate, and a thoughtful human being. During challenging pandemic months, he came to work without pause and continued to assist users with navigating the library and its resources.
In recognition of Spencer's excellent service, the book, Queer: A Graphic History, was dedicated in his honor to the Library's collection.
2021 Amelia V. Gallucci-Cirio Outstanding Student Employee Award - Alyssa Khan
Alyssa Khan has been a student worker at the Amelia V. Gallucci-Cirio Library since May 2019. She is majoring in psychology and will graduate in December 2021. Alyssa exemplifies all the qualities of a dedicated and caring library student worker. Whatever task is asked of Alyssa, she always takes it on with a positive attitude. Alyssa has always been dependable to step in when we needed her, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic to keep the library running. Alyssa has worked in every department of the library and her knowledge of the library has made her a vital member of our team.
In recognition of Alyssa’s excellent service, the book, College Mindfulness Training : Reducing Student Life Stress and Improving Academic Performance was dedicated in her honor to the library’s collection.
