March is Women's History Month

Originally starting as a single week in March, the first nationally recognized Women's History Week was proclaimed by President

Carter in 1980, to align with International Women's Day on March 8. In 1987, the National Women's History Project petitioned to have the month of March designated as Women's History Month.
