English as a Second Language Preparation Materials

When its time, register for the test

You will need to take the English as a Second Language (054) test. This test is now computer-based, and can be taken any day. Please check different testing centers for different available dates/times. Some local computer based sites:

Test Centers

Test Center* City State
Mount Wachusett Community College Gardner MA
Network Technology Academy, Inc Worcester MA
Pearson Professional Centers-Worcester MA Worcester MA
Pearson Professional Centers-Waltham (Boston West) Waltham MA
New Horizons Computer Learning Center Waltham MA

*Be sure to check dates at multiple different sites as they all have different availability.

There are multiple sites online with flashcards to help you study. These are all based off the older version of the MTEL, but they will still help.

Other Study Tools

I would recommend studying from: Peregoy & Boyle (2012) Reading, Writing, and Learning in ESL: A Resource Book for Teaching K-12 English Learners. Also, study the WIDA performance definition levels. You will be expected to know what each level means, with reference to the name, not the number level.
