ESL Internship (150 hours)

For Teachers adding an Additional License only

Once you have completed coursework and passed the ESL MTEL you may complete a 150 hour internship in the role of an ESL Teacher. This can typically be done in your current placement. You will also need to find a licensed (professional license or 3 years with Initial) ESL teacher to be your mentor. You will need to observe them and they will be the person you go to with specific questions about your lessons or your ELLs.

Use these questions to describe how you meet the ESL License requirements. 

5. Internship Letter to DESE: Sample Internship Letter - doe sample (PDF)
At the end of the internship, you will send this (completed) letter to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to show completion of your ESL Internship.
