Academic Programming Proposals

CALL FOR PROPOSALS: Center for Italian Culture Academic Programming proposal guidelines

To support projects during the 2014-2015 academic year (September – May)

The Center for Italian Culture (CIC) invites Fitchburg State faculty to submit proposals for projects that:

  • Enhance, augment or extend their curriculum.
  • Include a programming component (such as a performance, lecture, film) that is open to the internal and external community (not limited to a classroom appearance).

The CIC will select and fund a small number of proposals each academic year. Projects must be embedded in the syllabus and should meet the following criteria:

  • support, enhance, augment academic curriculum
  • be event-based
  • be an on-campus event

The CIC is interested in projects whose scope addresses any of the following areas:

  • Italian culture in the old and new world
  • Italian-American heritage
  • Contemporary Italian culture
  • Western civilization

The CIC is also interested in funding different types of collaborative projects. Project configurations could be as follows:

  • An Individual proposal: a project submitted by one Fitchburg State faculty member integrated into one or more courses.
  • An Internal collaborative Fitchburg State faculty proposal: a project submitted by multiple faculty members serving and integrated into one or more courses.
  • An External collaborative Fitchburg State faculty and external institution proposal: a project submitted by one {or more} Fitchburg State faculty members and external regional institution(s) serving and integrated into one or more courses with the option to also serve the external institution.

The following examples may help illustrate the CIC’s intention:

  • Individual proposal: A professor, teaching opera, brings a local soprano and accompanist for a short performance featuring Italian operas.
  • Collaborative Fitchburg State faculty: faculty from history and humanities partner to develop a film series that is used in a language class and history course.
  • Collaborative Fitchburg State and external: an author of Italian-American novels {whose books have been read in a course} speaks to that class and presents a talk for the local historical society.
