Christopher’s Fit

Christopher Masiello (’19)

Chris Masiello experienced our culture of dedication to our students before even setting foot on campus.

After a few disheartening experiences at other colleges, he was beginning to feel like higher education was not for him, despite his desire to obtain a nursing degree.

“Dan Connolly in Admissions called me to say that I had been accepted as a transfer student into the nursing program, but unfortunately I was shy three credits and couldn’t commute to Fitchburg in order to earn those three credits. But Dan had already done the research and found a school right down the road from me where I could satisfy that requirement in order for me to transfer to Fitchburg State and pursue my degree.”

Chris says his greatest system of support came from his nursing classmates.

“I hadn’t done as well as I would’ve liked on my first exam, and it was my classmates who rallied around me to ensure I got all the support I needed.”

Peer study sessions helped Chris get his grades up, and he says the whole experience was a way to learn one a valuable lesson:

“Don’t hesitate to ask for help. There’s a lot of it around. Ask your teachers, ask your peers. In my experience, they’re glad to help.”
