Transfer Admissions Info Session Thursday, April 8

To support the Becker College community and offer students an opportunity to continue their education, Fitchburg State University invites Becker students to meet with our transfer professionals at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 8 for an Admissions Information Session. We are also offering individual appointments for application review and transfer credit evaluation. Effective immediately, we are offering Becker College current and admitted students the following for the fall 2021 semester:

  • Guaranteed admission for students with 2.5 or higher and 24+ transferable credits (excludes nursing transfers)

Memorandum of Understanding

Fitchburg State has established a memorandum of understanding with Becker College so that students may transfer their enrollment and to complete their baccalaureate degree, preserving the integrity of the academic programs delivered and the degrees conferred. More specifically, Fitchburg State University aspires to provide a meaningful remedy to address the educational needs of Becker College students who, through no fault of their own, find their academic careers disrupted and their academic goals in jeopardy.

  • Admission: For all eligible Becker College students, Fitchburg State University shall:
    • Consider for transfer all students who are in good social and academic standing as of the date of the agreement;
    • Waive all admission or application fees;
    • Apply the receiving institution’s transfer admissions criteria to transferees from Becker College; and
    • Will consider exceptions to existing transfer policies on a case-by-case basis.
  • Course Transfer: Eligible Becker students will not be required to complete the receiving state university’s general education / core curriculum requirements, provided that the student has completed either:
    • All general education / core curriculum requirements as required by Becker College; or
    • The equivalent of the “Mass Transfer Block,” as determined by the registrar of the receiving state university.
  • Residency: In recognition of the disruption incurred by Becker students, Fitchburg State University shall reduce the residency requirements for degree completion as follows:
    • Becker students transferring to Fitchburg State University will be required to earn no fewer than fifteen (15) credit hours at the receiving institution;
    • Students requiring fewer than fifteen (15) credits to earn a degree that would have been conferred by Becker College may petition to have the residency requirement further reduced. Petitions will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
  • Housing: Becker College students that desire to live on campus will be offered housing at Fitchburg State University.
  • Tuition: Becker College students will be held to the normal Fitchburg State University residency requirements for tuition purposes.
  • Financial Aid: Fitchburg State will consider all Becker College students for financial aid using existing Fitchburg State University financial aid awards and awarding practices. Full consideration will require Becker College students to forward their 2021-2022 FAFSA to Fitchburg State University.
  • Support: Fitchburg State University shall provide an orientation and academic support to Becker College students transferring to Fitchburg State University and shall make best efforts to ensure that Becker students are able to register for the classes they need or authorize appropriate substitute courses.
  • Graduation: Becker College students who enroll and complete their degree at Fitchburg State University will receive a Fitchburg State University diploma.
  • Agreements: Becker College will provide official transcripts as requested by Becker students who will transition to Fitchburg State University. Fitchburg State University will offer courses of study toward a degree for which it is approved.
  • Promotion: Fitchburg State University will create a temporary webpage that provides fast access to necessary information for Becker College students. Fitchburg State University will make Fitchburg State University staff available to counsel Becker College students on options. Becker College will announce it has reached an agreement with Fitchburg State University and will provide information to students, staff, and parents about the existence of this MOU and the information contained in the MOU. 
  • Limitation: Becker students who would be otherwise eligible for transfer to a state university under this agreement will be excluded from the agreement if they fail to apply, be accepted, and matriculate to Fitchburg State University by February 1, 2022 (Last day to register for Spring 2022 semester). This allows students to begin their enrollment in either the fall '21 or spring  '22.
