Piergiacomo Mion Dalle Carbonare

Mr. Piergiacomo Mion Dalle Carbonare (Class of 2012)

Mr. Piergiacomo Mion Dalle Carbonare is currently a Junior Policy Officer at the World Farmers' Organisation (WFO) in Rome. At WFO I work on a range of policy issues from food security policy, gender, young farmers, climate change to international trade. At WFO I am also in charge of writing news items on all agriculture related issues and emerging trends around the world, drafting policy documents and position papers on behalf of the global farming community. Additionally, I am the focal point for the WFO Women's Committee, Youth Committee and related issues.

I hold a Master’s Degree in Public Management from SDA Bocconi School of Management (Milan, Italy). In January 2012 I graduated “Summa Cum Laude” in Political Science from Fitchburg State University, with a minor in International Studies and a concentration in Social and Political Philosophy.

Prior to beginning my experience at WFO, I had a traineeship at the European Center for Disease Control and Prevention (ECDC) in Stockholm, Sweden. At ECDC I assessed the level of capacity and implementation of EU guidelines on public health. Additionally, I reviewed the assessment tools used to evaluate and assess a country's public health capacity. During my experience as an Fitchburg State student, I also had the opportunity to work as an intern with an Italian bank and with an Italian member of Congress in Rome.

Impact the University had on my career path:

I first came to Fitchburg State as an international exchange student, coming from the University of Verona, Italy. I was supposed to stay only for the fall semester, but then decided to extend my stay and officially became a long-term international student. The Political Science Professors and courses convinced me to make an investment on my school career, and after graduating from Fitchburg State, I can only confirm my choice.

The Political Science Professors are highly qualified and the courses they offer are challenging and demanding, but they prepare students for the real world. The personal experience of each professor is greatly reflected in their classes, making the courses more interesting and your experience invaluable.

Moreover, I had the opportunity to gain Fitchburg State credits through two summer internships. Internships are an integral part of the learning activities at the University and they represent an opportunity to apply theories and notions learned during the courses.

Advice for Current and Prospective Political Science Students:

As an alumnus of Fitchburg State University, I am very proud of my alma mater. Fitchburg State is a comprehensive university, with a large range of courses but most of all Fitchburg State makes large investments in the quality of the education. I joined Fitchburg State in August 2008. As a new foreign student, I was not familiar with the educational system in the United States. While working on my bachelor’s degree in Political Science, I gained insight in my academic field, while simultaneously improving my English skills.

The qualifications and experience gained at Fitchburg State gave me the opportunity to enroll in a leading School of Management, SDA Bocconi, in Milan, Italy. I will always be thankful for the learning and life experiences I had at Fitchburg State and I am happy to see a growing campus, with more courses and more international students.
