David Chen

Mr. David Chen (class of 2013)

Mr. David Chen majored in Political Science and minored in Business Administration. While at Fitchburg State, I had the opportunity to intern for many regional organizations such as Fitchburg State University’s Regional Economic Development Institute (REDI) and the Nashoba Valley Chamber of Commerce, as well as LTL Strategies via The Washington Center Program. This unique blend of real world and academic experience helped me secure a full-tuition scholarship for Merrimack College’s Master of Education in Community Engagement Fellowship after graduation and a short-term position at the Department of Health and Human Services in Baltimore, MD.

‪Impact the University had on my career path

As a Political Science student at Fitchburg State University, I had the luxury to pursue many different internship experiences offered by the University, most notably the Washington Center internship. As an intern for the Washington Center, I was placed in an international development consulting firm based in Washington D.C. This internship exposed me to many facets of international affairs and the most up-to-date international policies. The best moment was exploring how organizations such as the World Bank, USAID, and the International Monetary Fund operate right in front of you.

Advice for Current and Prospective Political Science Students:

  • Always ask questions and explore every possibility.
  • Go out of your comfort zone and seek the world outside of Fitchburg.
