Game 2001: Game and Arts 

3 credits

This course explores contemporary arts and culture such as video games, Anime, and Manga and the Japanese American experience focused in Hawaii.
These contemporary art forms will be examined in the context of design, visual arts, and culture, in order to gain a better understanding of Game Art Aesthetics. For example, during the course, students explore Edo period Ukiyo-e wood block prints and shoin architecture as well as the evolution of modern manga from its roots in the Edo period with the publishing of Hokusai's Manga.

Course Counts for: Global Diversity Non-Western (GDAN)

Students are going to Los Angeles, California and Honolulu, Hawaii.

May 17  

Fly from Boston, MA to Los Angeles, CA. Airport arrival. Evening: Welcome Orientation, Review Program

May 18 

Breakfast: Will be provided each morning at the participant’s hotel. Morning: Visit the Go For Broke Foundation. Lunch: Little Tokyo Visit. Afternoon: Visit to the Japanese American National Museum

May 19  Breakfast: Will be provided each morning at the participant’s hotel. Morning: Visit to College of the Canyons – Lecture on Artistic Direction, Animation and Gaming, Campus Tour.
Afternoon: Visit to WayForward
May 20  Breakfast: Will be provided each morning at the participant’s hotel. Morning: Visit to Game Design Company – i.e. Riot Games, Blizzard, Naughty Dog. Afternoon: Unstructured Free Time
May 21  Morning: Tour of Los Angeles Including MOCA. Afternoon: Tour of Hollywood
May 22  Breakfast: Will be provided each morning at the participant’s hotel. Bus transportation during the day. Morning/Afternoon: Visit to Disneyland Park Anaheim – including meeting at Disney offices.
May 23  Breakfast: Will be provided each morning at the participant’s hotel. Morning/Afternoon: Travel to Honolulu, Hawaii
May 24  Breakfast: Will be provided each morning at the participant’s hotel. Morning: Tour of Honolulu
May 25  Breakfast: Will be provided each morning at the participant’s hotel. Morning: Visit to Pearl Harbor National Park/U.S.S. Arizona.
Afternoon: Visit to Byodo-In Temple
