The Economics, History, and Political Science department offers four majors and eight minors at the undergraduate level. The majors include *American Studies (*co-sponsored with the English department) Economics, History, and Political Science. Within the history major, students can choose to work towards a degree with provisional certification in Secondary Education. Elementary Education majors may also choose a second major in American Studies, Economics, History, or Political Science. Each of the four major areas offers a minor. In addition, the Social Sciences Department co-sponsors five interdisciplinary minors: African-American Studies, International Studies, Peace Studies, Social Science, and Women's Studies. On the graduate level, the department offers an MAT in History, an MA in History and an MA in History with a track in the History and Literature of Women.

Students gain the academic background and research capabilities for both graduate study and immediate entry into a variety of career fields. Focused field training experiences and national-internationally focused extra-curricular initiatives enhance what is learned in the classroom and broaden students' career options.
