Welcome to the Technology Department's guide for current students! As a member of the Fitchburg State University community, you have access to a number of electronic resources designed to enhance your academic life.

Email

Each Fitchburg State student is provided with a Web-based student.fitchburgstate.edu email account 24 hours after their first registration. All students are required to activate their account and check them regularly for messages from their professors and campus offices. Electronic billing for students will be sent to this account. Currently student email is hosted on Google mail.

Blackboard

Blackboard is a Web-based classroom management system used for assignments, grades and announcements. The system uses your Falcon Key as a login. To open Blackboard, visit blackboard.fitchburgstate.edu.

Telephone Service

Fitchburg State provides one phone line per residence hall room, and voice mail boxes for each student are available.

Campus Cable

Cable TV is provided to all residence hall students. There are 114 channels available, including NESN, MTVU, MTV2, NFL Net, 8 HBO channels, and 5 ESPN channels.

Internet Access

Residence hall rooms have a port for each student; use your Falcon Key as a login. All academic buildings and the North Street Apartments and Cedar Street House have wireless access.

Help Desk

The 24/7 Call Center offers support to students by phone at (978) 665-4500, toll-free at (866) 520-7131 and by email at helpdesk@fitchburgstate.edu. There is also walk-in service available in Conlon Hall, Room 236 (Campus Map). View our Hours of Operation page for a schedule of walk-in hours.

Viruses and Security

It is critical that you protect your computer against viruses. The university offers free antivirus software for students running on both Windows and Mac platforms. It is also important to keep your computer's operating system updated.

Software Discounts

Microsoft software is provided to our students at an exceptional price due to the negotiated Microsoft Campus Agreement. It can only be purchased at the University Bookstore in the Hammond Building by using your OneCard.

There are also Adobe software discounts for students. The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software can be obtained at the Help Desk.

J Drive

Each student has their own J drive, which is a network hard drive that can be accessed anywhere on the campus network. It provides up to 300 MB of storage.

Pharos Printing

The Pharos printing system allows users to print from a laptop in the university library and in computer labs. You will need your OneCard and your Falcon Key to use the service.

Tk20

Tk20 is an online assessment and e-portfolio system used by many of the departments and programs on the Fitchburg State University campus. Tk20 is available to all students at the university. To login, go to fitchburgstate.tk20.com.

Connect-ED

Connect-ED is an automatic calling and email service used by Fitchburg State to notify the campus community of important announcements such as weather closures or delays, university opening and closing activities, and campus and regional emergencies.

Students can build personal and club websites through Fitchburg State resources. The university provides a Google Sites account for student use.

There are open computer labs on campus for student use that include both Mac and PC computers. Lab monitors are available in each lab to answer questions.

Student Laptop Requirements

All incoming freshman and transfer students are required to purchase a laptop. Visit our Laptop Requirements page for more detailed information. The Technology Department supports the purchase of both Apple and windows based laptops through our website recommendations. Purchases outside of the hardware recommendations may not be supported by our technicians. Hardware support for the Apple platform is limited in accordance with the warranty (see the website for more details).
