Institutional Effectiveness and Research

The Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Research is responsible for the collection, analysis, and dissemination of institutional information. The Director also serves as a resource to other campus administrative and academic units in matters related to external reporting/compliance and internal assessment of institutional effectiveness.

The Director serves as the liaison to the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education for issues related to the HEIRS II data reporting system and the Performance Measurement System. Institutional Research coordinates completion of all surveys required under the IPEDS federal reporting system. The Office also responds to external requests for aggregated data from other educational institutions, public agencies, and commercial and not-for-profit entities.

Common Data Set provides students and others with a useful profile of Fitchburg State University.  In order to ensure a means of useful comparison between various colleges and universities, the Common Data Set requires that each institution measure their data in the same way. 

Common Data Set is designed to provide information to assist students' transition into higher education. 

Retention Rate measures the percentage of incoming full-time freshmen who are retained from one year to the next, registering for the following fall semester.  Retention rate is calculated for the overall percentage of freshmen retained, for males and females and for each race and ethnicity.

Graduation Rate measures the percentage of full-time, first-time freshmen who graduate in four, five or six years.

Institutional Factbook provides constituencies utilizing higher education data with data and metrics relating to Fitchburg State University.

Institutional Factbook is designed to provide a data resource to internal and external constituents.   

NSSE 2012

The National Survey of Student Engagement, "NSSE," is administered by Fitchburg State University every three years.  The most recent participation in the survey was 2012.

NSSE is a student survey used to assess student engagement and participation in the process of learning.

NSSE Executive Snapshot provides some highlights of Fitchburg State's most recent survey.

The NSSE Executive Snapshot compares Fitchburg State University with other New England public colleges and universities, with other national public institutions offering master's level coursework, and with a comparison group of institutions.  Institutions in the comparison group are selected based upon size, mission, funding source, etc.
