Antonucci picked as Chamber of Commerce chairman
Fitchburg State University President Robert V. Antonucci has been elected chairman of the North Central Massachusetts Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors for 2012-13. The announcement was made at the chamber’s annual business meeting on Wednesday, June 13.
The former state commissioner of education, Antonucci was selected as President of Fitchburg State University in 2003. Since that time, the Fitchburg State graduate has enhanced his reputation for leadership and innovation across the commonwealth. Early on, Antonucci made a commitment to strengthen the university’s ties to the city of Fitchburg, as the city’s largest employer and major economic engine. His wife, Jeanne, and he have a son, a daughter, and five grandchildren.
“Through years of support and advocating for the Chamber, while building Fitchburg State’s status as the top university in the commonwealth, Bob has proven a tremendous asset to our organization. His business acumen and continuous involvement in the community, makes him an ideal chairman,” said Chamber President David McKeehan.
Outgoing Chairman Martin F. Connors Jr., president and CEO of Rollstone Bank & Trust, convened the 150 attendees at the luncheon meeting at the Wachusett Village Inn in Westminster.
In the same election, Paul DiGeronimo, president of Geronimo Properties, was voted Vice-Chairman and director Douglas Petersen, CEO of Workers’ Credit Union, was elected to the position of Treasurer.
New board members elected for a three-year term to end in June 2015 were Cindy Curley, president of Orchard Hills Athletic Club and Mark Freeman, president of Steel-Fab, Inc.
Continuing current terms on the Board of Directors are Richard Armstrong, DRS Power Technology; Daniel Asquino PhD, president of Mount Wachusett Community College; Thomas Bagley III, president of ABM Insurance; Maedon Coburn, president of Appleseed Personnel; Gordon Edmonds, president of Leominster Credit Union; J. Paul Gauvin, president of Henri Enterprises; Lawrence Gelsomini, president of Crocker Technical Papers; Mary Leger, CEO of Ruel Electric; Laura Martino-Reynolds, president of FHC Industrial Hardware; Anthony Mercadante, partner in Mercadante & Mercadante, CPAs; Stephen Mullaney, president of SJ Mullaney Engineering; and Eric Shapiro, president of The Lexvest Group/Phoenix Park.
