The Fitchburg State University Alumni Office works closely with the Alumni Association Board of Directors to integrate graduates within each aspect of the university community. While the Alumni Board and staff work to better the Fitchburg State experience and create a culture of Falcon Pride, they can't do it alone, we need your help!

Volunteers in leadership positions play a very special role in the advancement of Fitchburg State. They are the leaders whose time and talents inspire others to participation and financial support of the university.

Our volunteers give their time because they feel that the university is an important resource for the community and a vital part of the lives of our students. They feel the responsibility to "give something back" to the university after the experiences they enjoyed and benefited from while here, and their value to Fitchburg State is immeasurable.

Each volunteer offers their own unique talents and expertise for the benefit of the university and their fellow alumni. The Alumni and Development Office supports, guides, and assists volunteers to ensure that the experience is enjoyable, rewarding, and in direct support of the mission of Fitchburg State University. But our volunteers are leaders in their own right. Board members and committee chairs in particular assume roles with a high degree of authority, autonomy, and accountability.

Become a member of the Alumni Association Board of Directors

We are currently looking for alumni interested in joining the Alumni Association Board of Directors. Responsibilities include attendance at 4-6 meetings a year as well as Winter and Spring Commencements and committee participation. If you are interested in serving on the Board, please contact the Nominating Committee Chair, Nicholas Smith.

Become a Committee Member

We are always looking for alumni to join committees that advance the specific goals of the Alumni Association. You do not need to be a Board member to serve on a committee, and many volunteers choose to test the waters on a committee before applying for Board membership. It is a great way to meet the people who are the driving force of the Alumni Association and to make a difference in your own particular field of interest at Fitchburg State. Visit the Alumni Association Committee page for more information.

Join the Alumni Tour Guide Program

The purpose of an Alumni Tour Guide Program is to provide prospective students and families with a unique alumni perspective, sharing stories of success and past positive experiences at Fitchburg State. Alumni are encouraged to speak of their reasons for attending Fitchburg State, academic and professional successes, and appropriate campus memories. This program is directly related to the Admissions Office and is intended only for Admissions Open Houses, and President’s Receptions for Accepted Students. The primary intention of the Alumni Tour Guide Program is to promote the university to prospective students by utilizing alumni who are not professionally linked to the university community.

Duties may include:

  • Assisting with tours to visiting prospective students during Open Houses, Information Sessions, or Admissions Receptions; most alumni guides will accompany a trained student tour guide. Alumni who once served as student tour guides may be eligible to serve as “stand-alone” guides.
  • Optional- Assisting faculty members with academic department presentations during Admissions events. Alumni will be given the opportunity to speak about the educational impact that Fitchburg State University has made in their professional career.

A Call-to-Action to Get Involved

If you or a fellow alumnus/a are interested in assisting with tours, please contact the Volunteer Recruitment Committee Chair, Nicholas Smith, with the alumnus/a’s name, email, mailing address, and phone number. The alumnus/a will be contacted by a representative of the Fitchburg State University Alumni Association with further details.
