Mission
The Tutor Center mission is to increase students academic achievement. Our goals are to enhance student's ability to learn, apply knowledge and to help students develop critical thinking skills. Students will become more self-confident and self-directed learners as a result of their tutorial relationship.
The Tutor Center’s sixty peer tutors offer free individual peer tutoring, in over one hundred courses, representing nineteen majors serving freshman to seniors. On average 850 students each year use one or more of the twenty tutoring services available to assist them to develop their study habits, improve their understanding of topics and concepts, prepare for tests, and increase their grades.
Our Tutors are Qualified: The Fitchburg State University Tutor Center has earned the prestigious College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) International Tutor Program Certification status.

Tutoring
Tutoring sessions focus on reviewing and explaining concepts and specific topics. Tutors also introduce study and learning methods that assist students to develop new habits for learning.
Writing Tutoring
With a focus on clear communication, the peer tutors work together with writers at all levels, in all stages of the writing process from planning, drafting, revising, editing and proofreading.
Group Tutoring
If you would like to study with 2 to 3 student facilitated by a group tutor, group tutors work together with students at all levels, and plan supplemental instruction activities to assist students to learn the most important concepts and principles. Group Tutoring occurs weekly lead by a tutor trained in effective study group processes.
Math Tutoring
The Math Center offers peer tutors who specialize in one-on-one tutoring on a walk-in basis in most all courses. Algebra Placement test preparation services include: diagnostic assessment, individualized learning plans, online resources and small group tutoring.
Learning Strategy Sessions
Professional individual Study and Learning Strategy Sessions are available. Students are introduced to and practice new study methods that will improve comprehension, long-term memory, note-taking, test preparation and even save time studying.
Academic Success Seminars
Learning research based college study methods save students time studying and maximize their learning. These one-hour Seminars provide students with specific step-by-step actions and initial practice with the study method.
MTEL Communication and Literacy Test Preparation Seminar
The Tutor Center offers a six session, twelve hour, preparation seminar facilitated by professional instructors to assist students to prepare for this test. Students can also request individual peer tutors further assistance to prepare for the CLST Writing sub-test. Individualized professional tutoring is also available to assist students with preparing for the CLST Reading sub-test. At the Math Center students can request MTEL General Curriculum Mathematics subtest preparation services include: diagnostic assessment, individualized learning plans, small group Seminars and tutoring.

Office Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Availability: Tutors meet with students in the library and are available by appointment seven days a week at mutually agreeable times during the day, evening or weekends.
