Mathematics Societies

There are numerous mathematical societies which are of interest to math students and mathematicians alike. The following is a list of common math societies and links to each primary website.

Mathematical Association of America
This website has information for high school, undergraduate and graduate students in mathematics. There is good information regarding regional and national mathematical conferences, meeting information for students and other mathematical links.

The America Mathematical Society
Founded in 1888 to further mathematical research and scholarship, the American Mathematical Society fulfills its mission through programs and services that promote mathematical research and its uses, strengthen mathematical education, and foster awareness and appreciation of mathematics and its connections to other disciplines and to everyday life.

The Society of Industrial and Application Mathematics (SIAM)
Applied mathematics, in partnership with computational science, is essential in solving many real-world problems. Through our publications, research, and community, the mission of SIAM is to build cooperation between mathematics and the worlds of science and technology.

Society of Actuaries
The Society of Actuaries is an educational, research and professional organization dedicated to serving the public and Society members. The Society's vision is for actuaries to be recognized as the leading professionals in the modeling and management of financial risk and contingent events.

Casualty Actuarial Society
The purposes of the Casualty Actuarial Society are to advance the body of knowledge of actuarial science applied to property, casualty and similar risk exposures, to establish and maintain standards of qualification for membership, to promote and maintain high standards of conduct and competence for the members, and to increase the awareness of actuarial science.

Association for Women in Mathematics
The Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) is a non-profit organization founded in 1971.

The purpose of the Association for Women in Mathematics is

  • to encourage women and girls to study and to have active careers in the mathematical sciences, and
  • to promote equal opportunity and the equal treatment of women and girls in the mathematical sciences.
